Volunteer Social Media Content Creator

Remote / Work from Home

The Australian Alliance for Animals is seeking a creative and organised Social Media Content Creator to generate engaging digital content across existing and new social media channels and help build public support for vital animal welfare reforms.

Applications close 7 June 2026.

About the Australian Alliance for Animals

The Australian Alliance for Animals is a national charity leading a strategic alliance of Australia’s major animal welfare organisations, with a focus on effective animal advocacy through government engagement and policy reform. Launched in 2022, our member organisations include Animals Australia, World Animal Protection Australia, Humane World for Animals Australia, Compassion in World Farming, FOUR PAWS Australia, and Voiceless, the animal protection institute.

Through our programs, we lead sector-wide support for crucial reforms, hold decision-makers to account, and bring our members and allies together to strengthen the representation of animals. Our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan includes goals of uniting the Australian animal welfare sector and increasing its political significance.

About the volunteer role

The Alliance for Animals is looking for a creative and organised Volunteer Social Media Coordinator to support our digital presence and help bring our campaigns to life online.

Working closely with the Campaigns and Communications Manager, you’ll play a hands-on role in generating social media content — from ideating to creating engaging content to reach and inspire audiences across Australia.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build their portfolio, gain experience in advocacy communications, and contribute to meaningful work that creates real-world impact for animals.

Key responsibilities

  • Content creation and copywriting: Ideate and design social media content (graphics, carousels, and videos), and draft captions aligned with campaign messaging and tone of voice.

  • Platform growth and development: Monitor engagement, flag trends or opportunities, and collaborate on new ideas to grow reach and engagement.

Time commitment

  • 7-14 hours per week

We understand this is a volunteer role and that you likely have other commitments. This role is remote and offers flexible hours to suit your schedule, in consultation with the Campaigns and Communications Manager.

Selection criteria

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in contributing to social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok)

  • Design and video editing skills

  • Confident using design tools such as Adobe and Canva

  • A strong communicator with good written skills and attention to detail

  • Creative, proactive, and able to generate content ideas

  • Organised and able to manage tasks and timelines independently

  • Comfortable receiving feedback and working collaboratively

  • Passionate about social causes (animal welfare interest)

Why join us?

  • Impact: Directly contribute to building awareness and community around vital reforms that will transform the way animals are treated in Australia.

  • Mentorship: Receive guidance and professional experience in a non-profit organisation from our Campaigns and Communications Manager.

Please note, this is for Australian residents only.

Applications close 7 June 2026.
