Submission: Inquiry into the greyhound racing industry in Western Australia

Submission overview

The Australian Alliance for Animals has made a submission to the WA Parliamentary Inquiry into greyhound racing.

Our submission fully supports the detailed evidence provided by Animals Australia. We highlight that commercial greyhound racing is incompatible with modern animal welfare standards, with repeated inquiries revealing entrenched welfare, governance, and transparency issues. The industry’s reliance on breeding far more dogs than can be responsibly rehomed leads to unavoidable “wastage”, a practice the community will not accept.

Incremental reforms cannot fix these inherent harms. A planned and responsible phase-out is the most ethical and fiscally sound path forward, aligning WA with emerging national and international standards.
