Driving change for animals
2025 Supporter Survey Results
In February 2025, we invited our supporters to share your motivations, views and experiences with the Alliance – and we are so grateful to everyone who took part.
Your feedback, alongside insights from our core member organisations and allies, plays a vital role in shaping our strategy. It helps us understand our community’s values and expectations, focus our efforts where they matter most, and build a more powerful movement for animals.
Below, we share some of our key findings and what they mean for our work ahead.
Survey overview: Listening to our community
Conducted to gather insights about our supporter base and activities, the results of our first supporter survey provide a valuable glimpse into the trends and sentiments within our community.
Who you are and how you found us
We received responses from over 100 participants from all around Australia (and a few overseas supporters too!), spanning all age groups.
When asked about your motivation for supporting animal welfare, an overwhelming 98% of respondents cited concern for the ethical treatment of animals as the primary reason you support our work. It’s this shared value that is the foundation of everything we do. Together, we’re advocating for systems that reflect compassion and fairness for all animals.
Many of you heard about us first from friends or family (17%), or through news articles (11%), but social media emerged as the leading channel, with 40% of respondents discovering us there. These findings highlight the importance of both digital outreach and the power of personal networks in growing our movement for animals.
How you take action
Our community is highly active, with:
90% of supporters having signed a petitions or pledge
51% of supporters having made a submission
61% following us on social media
31% having attended an online event, often leading to further action.
5% directly contributing their time and skills through volunteering
You also really like our webinars and submission-writing workshops, with 91% of attendees making a submission and 86% saying they’d be “extremely” or “very” likely to attend another workshop.
This level of engagement is key to driving our success, as every action taken matters and the strength of our community is shown in every signature, share, and conversation.
How you rate our work
We asked a series of questions about the quality and style of our communications. Overall, 80% of you rated our emails, website and social media communications as excellent (5/5) or very good (4/5). You also gave us advice on other issues you’d like to see us working on, and what you’d like to see us change, which we’ll take on board in planning our future strategy.
What matters most
We asked you to tell us how important our current campaigns are, and the results were resoundingly positive. Most supporters considered our core campaigns and ambitions to be “very important” and felt that we have the balance right between policy reform and issue-based campaigns.
Having an impact
Ultimately, our work is all about improving animal welfare, so we asked you to rate our impact towards this goal. As a new organisation we weren’t expecting a high score, but you gave us a rating of 4 out of a possible 5. Knowing our supporters already think our work is cutting through is an incredibly motivating result for the Alliance team.
“The Alliance engages in pro-animal interventions that are scalable (has potential to affect millions of animals in a positive way). Having Bidda and Jed lead the Alliance adds to its credibility as they are both very experienced and educated in this space. I also like how the inherently cruel system is held accountable, and not consumers/individuals (i.e. I like the way the Alliance crafts its messaging - informative, digestible and non-confrontational)”
“It’s the strength of your voice, evidence-based and legally informed, collaborative, a non-radical style, a voice of reason from people with the best credentials who have wide experience in the animal welfare field.”
“I love the idea of bringing people together - unity is strength. Alliance for Animals is doing that, bringing animal protection agencies together, to make positive change for animals.”
Key insights and next steps
The results are clear: you’re right behind us when it comes to bold, effective and coordinated action for animals, and we’re ready to deliver.
Looking ahead, there are many challenges for us to overcome to change Australia's animal welfare policy system. By working closely with our core members and allies, and with your continued support, we will continue our work to address these issues through legislative reforms and persistent, targeted advocacy.
Informed by your feedback, we’re working to:
Strengthen our campaigns through continued legislative and policy advocacy
Expand our communications to keep you better informed and engaged
Invest in the resources and tools you need to take meaningful action
Work closely with our core members and allies to deliver systemic change.
