Help improve the lives of millions of chickens

A pathway toward the Better Chicken Commitment now exists. With your support, we can help ensure businesses take it — and turn this important progress into meaningful change for chickens.

RSPCA Australia has released new higher-welfare certification requirements that, for the first time, give Australian chicken producers a pathway to meet the Better Chicken Commitment.

The new standard addresses some of the most serious causes of suffering for chickens raised for meat, including extreme growth rates, crowded sheds without natural light, and live shackling before slaughter.

This is an important step forward. But the release of a new standard will not improve chickens’ lives on its own.

Supermarkets, restaurants and other major food businesses must now commit to adopting it across their supply chains.

That is where the next phase of our work begins.

Through the Better Chicken Australia campaign, we will continue to engage directly with food businesses, build public pressure and make the case for higher-welfare practices that better reflect current science and community expectations.
